What causes false alarms in smoke alarms?

If the alarms have been replaced I doubt if it is the alarm, could be something electrical, so investigate whether you are turning something on at the time. I had a similar problem years ago and the house had to be rewired as it was found to be electrical, we looked in the roof and could actually see a little bit of smoke coming from old wiring.
