Why don't *many buddhists eat meat?

according to beliefs, the animal world is full of suffering and animals can't attain enlightenment. Therefore, would we not be relieving them by killing them quickly for our sustenance? They get to be reborn as something better, and we get to eat. win/win it would seem.
